The Elbert County region has a workforce of over 100,000 in a 30 minute commute (US Census Bureau). This number provides industry with an excellent selection of workers. There is a Department of Labor Career Center located in Elberton happy to assist new and existing industry in searching for employees as well as providing information on updates in regards to employee/employer legislation.
The workforce here is excellent; in fact the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development awarded Elbert County as a Certified Work Ready community. This certification is a quantifiable instrument assuring industry and business of a community’s workforce as being qualified. Elbert County is proud of the fact that it is in the first wave of counties in Georgia to receive the designation. The community is extremely proud of the Elbert County Campus of Athens Technical College. In addition to its current programs it has a new addition; the Industrial Technology Building. Dedicated on February 1, 2011, it is a $5,100,000.00 facility with 26,555 square
feet. The building houses classes including Diesel Mechanics, Welding, Industrial Systems Technology, Machine Tool Techonology, Electrical Construction and Maintenance. Also, CNC classes are available at the main campus of Athens Technical College - a short 30 minutes away. This campus already serves 500 credit students from Elbert County and the surrounding area. This new addition will serve local citizens and industry well.
